True to its commitment to providing immediate assistance to families affected by calamities, National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Joeben Tai approved the release of cash assistance to 17 families affected by the recent fire raze in Quezon City.
NHA Quezon City District Office led the distribution of the P395,000 Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) fund to fire victim families from Barangays Bagong Silang, Bahay Toro, Batasan Hills, Commonwealth, and San Antonio, Quezon City.
Of the 17 families, eight (8) received a cash aid of P30,000 each; five (5) families received P20,000 each; three (3) families were recipients of P15,000 each; and one family received P10,000. The cash assistance is upon the recommendation of the local government of Quezon City based on the extent of damage to the families’ houses.
Ms. Herminia Berdejo Nemeño, 64 years old and one of the EHAP beneficiaries, thanked the NHA through GM Tai and the national government for the help she received after a fire ravaged their home on February 26, 2020.
“Sa ngalan ng iba pang biktima ng sunog at mula sa akin, maraming maraming salamat po kay GM Tai. Napakalaking tulong ng NHA at ng involvement ng national government. Mabuti at nandyan ang NHA at marami kayong natutulungan.” Ms. Nemeño said.
Ms. Nemeño shared that their home was just newly-renovated for a year using her retirement money when the fire destroyed it within their compound in Brgy. San Antonio.
Simultaneously, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the NHA’s Community Support Services Department distributed P234,000 cash assistance to 13 informal settler families relocated from Barangays Bagumbayan, Doña Imelda, and Nagkaisang Nayon to NHA’s housing projects in Bulacan and Rizal. Each family received P18,000 financial aid.
Since GM Tai assumed his post in August this year, the NHA has released P275.545 million in EHAP funds, benefitting 42,148 families.#
