A total of ₱254,087.05 worth of assistance was recently released to the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur (ZDS) by the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office IX (DOST-IX) for the procurement and installation of S&T initiatives in identified conflict-vulnerable zones in the area.
The project aims to primarily provide access to S&T interventions for the 120 members of the Women Empowerment Movement Rural Improvement Club (WEM-RIC) of Barangay Dalapan, Guipos through the provision of food related training equipment, food technology skills, and food safety trainings.
Released through the agency’s Grants-in-Aid (GIA) program, the project titled “Science, Technology, and Innovation to Empower Women in Local Communist Armed Conflict-Affected Community in Barangay Dalapan, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur” is also in support of the implementation of Executive Order No. 70, or the Whole-Nation-Approach which is directed towards the delivery of effective and efficient science & technology related services and the establishment of sustainable livelihood systems.
Present during the turnover were ZDS Provincial S&T Director, Engr. Gerardo F. Parot; WEM-RIC president and Barangay Councilor Alvin R. Secoya; and association representative, Margielyn Talledo.
The DOST’s Grants-In-Aid (GIA) program aims to harness the country’s scientific and technological capabilities to spur and attain sustainable economic growth and development in the regions.
Designed to contribute to productivity and the improvement of the Filipino quality of life by generating and promoting appropriate technologies, it also aims to strengthen the participation of various S&T sectors, particularly in research and development (R&D), promotion, technology transfer and utilization, human resources development, information dissemination, advocacy, and linkages.#
