Camp Guillermo Nakar, Lucena City – Quezon Police Provincial Office The men and women of Quezon PPO mourns for the loss of our dear brother, PCpl Ruel Agnes as he bravely faced the danger in saving the victim of drowning incident in Atimonan Quezon. A true hero and a dedicated public servant.


On January 26, 2022, Pcpl Ruel Agnes jumped at Maling River located at Barangay San Isidro Atimonan, Quezon to rescue Mary Jean Binaday Mata also known as “Coleen”, 25-year-old resident of Maligaya Park Subdivision Camarin Caloocan City. The moment she was seen by Pcpl Agnes drowning, the police officer never hesitate to rescue her despite the strong current of the river.
His bravery occurred at about 8 in the evening while conducting intel monitoring for possible police operation for illegal gambling. After Pcpl Agnes rushed to the river to rescue the victim, both of them were swept away and apparently, never seen after the incident.


Police Corporal Ruel Agnes is a member of Philippine National Police Class 2014 “Bantayog”, married, resident of Brgy. San Diego Gumaca, Quezon and currently assigned at Atimonan Municipal Police Station.


The joint retrieval operation conducted by Atimonan MPS together with Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), MDRRMO, Philippine Coast Guard, 89th IB Philippine Army and Brgy. Tanod of Brgy. San Isidro Atimonan, Quezon found the lifeless body of PCpl Ruel Mendoza Agnes, at about 12:10 PM of January 29, 2022 along maling river within the vicinity of Brgy. San Isidro Atimonan, Quezon.


Quezon Police Provincial Office has lost a brother and a hero, “We will remember and honor his selfless devotion to Quezon PPO and his ultimate sacrifice to save someone he didn’t know.” PCOL VILLANUEVA, Provincial Director Quezon PPO said.#
