DA7 urges Negros Oriental LGUs to enact agriculture ordinances

To mitigate the effect of environmental conditions in food production, the Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas (DA7) challenged the Local Government Units (LGUs) in Negros Oriental to enact ordinances that will address food-related concerns in their locality.

DA7’s Agriculture Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) of Negros Oriental Sarah Perocho in a meeting with the mayors of Guihulngan City and Vallehermoso, shared the programs and projects of the agency as well as climate-resilient technologies that will help solve environmental concerns affecting food production.

She lobbied with the LCEs to enact local ordinances related to climate resilient technologies such as the establishment of household rain water impounding system, Solid Waste Management and recycling of single-use plastic bottles.

“For the improvement and advancement of our agri production and livelihood, we must adopt and embrace climate-resilient technologies,” Perocho said.

Local Chief Executives (LCEs) of the two municipalities have showed support on the enactment of such ordinances as these are seen to mitigate the impact of climate change in the local food production. # # # (DA-RFO VII, RAFIS)
