Tanauan trading post to be upgraded soon

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William D. Dar, together with DA IV-CALABARZON OIC-Regional Executive Director Ms. Vilma M. Dimaculangan and Tanauan City Mayor Hon. Mary Angeline “Sweet” Halili visited on January 23, 2021 the P50-million soon-to-develop Trading Post in Brgy. Sambat, Tanauan City, Batangas.

This upgrade is funded under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act II (Bayanihan II) stimulus package for the agriculture sector.

Upon expansion, the trading post is set to benefit 219 stall owners and 190 fruit and vegetable vendors.

During his visit, the Secretary encouraged the vendors to keep the prices of their quality produce at reasonable rates for the consumers’ benefit.

“This trading post can serve as a great food source not only for CALABARZON but also for nearby areas in Metro Manila in times of need, especially during the current limitations brought by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Secretary Dar said.

At present, the trading post receives 70 tons of fruits and vegetables per day. It serves consumers in Batangas and buyers from nearby provinces such as Cavite and Laguna, and even Metro Manila.

The current trading post had registered an income of P27.3 million to the local government in 2020, which could increase by 20 percent more upon completing the project.

Assistant Secretary (ASec.) for Operations Engr. Arnel V. de Mesa, ASec. for Strategic Communications Mr. Noel O. Reyes, Bureau of Animal Industry Director Dr. Rieldrin G. Morales, Planters Products, Inc. President Mr. Ranilo Maderazo, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Mr. Dennis Arpia, Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division Chief Ms. Editha M. Salvosa, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer Mr. Fidel L. Libao, and Tanauan City Agriculturist Mr. Rene Cunanan also took part in today’s visit. # # # (MAP, DA-RAFIS)
