Delivery of assorted vegetables in Balintawak, Quezon City

Assisted by the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bulacan farmers started their regular shipment of affordable produce to Metro Manila markets with a delivery of 90 metric tons of assorted vegetables at Juliana Market in Balintawak on January 26, 2021.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said this is only the beginning as more products from nearby provinces in Luzon will be mobilized to Metro Manila and distributed in different markets to stabilize prices of basic food commodities.

Some of the delivered vegetables are siling panigang at P70/kilo, eggplant at P60/kilo, bottle gourd at P15/kilo, cucumber at P15/kilo, ampalaya at P60/kilo, and pole sitao at P50/kilo.

While waiting for the approval of the proposed Executive Order to impose a price ceiling for pork, chicken, and other basic commodities, Secretary Dar instructed the entire DA family to focus resources on priority concerns such as control of the African swine fever and management of food supply and prices. # # # (Photos by Alarico Nuestro, DA-AFID)
