Meet the new partners of the Department of Agriculture-11 in promoting agricultural production and eradicating hunger and malnutrition in the region– the Apostles of Jesus Crucified (AJC) Sisters in Biao Guianga, Tugbok, Davao City.
The AJC Sisters are looking into developing the 5-hectare idle space into an agricultural production area planted with corn and vegetables, and also for livestock production for which produce will support the Padre Pio’s Home for Children orphanage and their community-based beneficiaries.
Recently, DA-XI Regional Executive Director Ricardo M. Oñate, Jr. has tasked experts from the agency’s banner programs to conduct a series of trainings on various agri commodities production to the AJC Sisters and provide production support such as vegetable and corn seeds, fertilizer, forage, vermiculture, biocontrol agents, and needed inputs for their livestock and poultry.
“We need more partners like the AJC Sisters who really look into the potential of agriculture. Given the current health emergency situation, we need to encourage more people to engage in agriculture and produce their own food,” said Oñate. # # # (Celso Campos Vergara, DA-RFO XI, RAFIS)
