Strengthening Partnership in the Agriculture and Fishery Sector

The Department of Agriculture, through its Regional Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region, conducted a joint planning workshop with the Regional Line Agencies (RLAs) and the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) on January 15, 2021 at the DA-RFO CAR Conference Hall.

Representatives from NIA, TESDA, DSWD, DTI, DOST, DAR, and RAFC participated in the activity which aims to convene stakeholders in the agriculture and fishery sector at the regional level to identify priority programs, projects and activities (PPAs) for FY 2022 onwards that will contribute to the attainment of goals and objectives for the development of the sector.

Updated policy framework, strategies and performance of the agriculture and fishery sector in the Cordillera were underscored as the basis in identifying and prioritizing PPAs for collaboration among government agencies to meet common goals and objectives. Joint planning optimizes resources in the delivery of more interventions that result to greater and higher level of outcomes. Similarly, projects and activities when properly understood as explained in the point of views of partner line agencies helps in ascertaining areas of complementation among key players in the agriculture and fishery sector.

DA-RFO CAR OIC-Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey highlighted that partnership should focus on commodities the region has comparative advantage such as arabica coffee, highland vegetables, strawberry, heirloom rice, and upland dairy.

RLAs and RAFC identified PPAs complementary to the services of DA, PPAs needing assistance from DA, and issues and recommendations needing DA’s action. These shall be considered in the preparation of the Plan and Budget Proposal for FY 2022 onwards. Likewise, previous plans including the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Modernization Plan, the Food Security Plan, and the Food Resiliency Plan prepared with stakeholders shall be considered in subsequent planning and budgeting. # # # (MJMAnaydos & Photo by JBAgrifino / DA-RFO CAR, RAFIS)
