The Department of Agriculture 12 is partnering with the academic institution in the region to promote the DA’s Rice Hybridization Program to the farmers and further boost their productivity.
In a demo farm inside the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) – Kabacan Campus , a ceremonial transplanting of various hybrid rice varieties from participating private seed companies was done earlier in the morning.
During the said activity, Regional Rice Program Focal Person Esmael Intao has urged the USM officials to intensify the campaign in their service areas.
“The productivity of hybrid rice has a yield advantage of 15-20% … Kung susuportahan natin ang rice hybridization, kayang-kaya ng ating bansa na maging rice self-sufficient,” he said.
Further, under the said program, Intao also said that the DA will distribute free seeds and fertilizers to the USM and farmer-beneficiaries. # # # (DA-RFO XII, RAFIS)
