NEA orders ECs to prepare for Tropical Depression ‘Vicky’

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) alerted all electric cooperatives (ECs) to take all the necessary steps to prepare for Tropical Depression ‘Vicky,’ the 22nd tropical cyclone of the year.
The NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) issued an advisory on Thursday (December 17) to 121 ECs to implement contingency measures to mitigate the possible impact of the weather disturbance on their electric services to consumers. The agency also directed the power co-ops to activate their respective Emergency Response Organization when the need arises to implement without delay the appropriate emergency response plans.
All ECs were also advised to closely monitor the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) for updates on the weather disturbance, and report all significant outages to the NEA DRRMD.
In its 2:00 p.m. weather bulletin on Friday, PAGASA said Tropical Depression ‘Vicky’ maintains its strength and is about to make landfall over Davao Oriental. Tropical Depression ‘Vicky’ is the first tropical cyclone for December.
At 1:00 p.m., the center of Tropical Depression ‘Vicky’ was estimated based on all available data at 95 km East Northeast of Davao City. It has a maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km/h, moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h. ### (Corporate Communications and Social Marketing Office, National Electrification Administration)
