Manila Water signs agreement for the construction of Hinulugang Taktak Sewage Treatment Plant

While observing strict protocols related to COVID-19, Manila Water recently organized a ceremonial signing of the usufruct agreement that will set the ball rolling for the construction of the Hinulugang Taktak Sewage Treatment Plant in Antipolo City. Participating in the signing ceremony are Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu, Antipolo City Mayor Andrea B. Ynares, as well as Manila Water Chief Executive Officer and President Jose Rene D. Almendras, and Chief Operating Officer Abelardo P. Basilio.

Underscoring the huge benefit of the wastewater treatment facility to health and sanitation for in her constituency, Mayor Ynares welcomes the commencement of the construction and assures Manila Water of her office’s support for the project. Sec. Cimatu for his part commends the partnership of Manila Water and Antipolo City for this project and emphasizes the significance of public-private partnership in protecting and saving the environment, especially that of waterways.  Almendras expresses his gratitude to Cimatu and Ynares and all government partners in their cooperation towards achieving Manila Water’s mission to complete wastewater services coverage in Metro Manila’s East Zone.

The Hinulugang Taktak Sewerage System Project is comprised of the construction of a 16-million liter per day (MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant and laying of approximately 6 kilometers of sewer network lines. The sewerage system will help ensure that wastewater from the community is cleaned before discharge to the Hinulugang Taktak Falls. The commencement of the construction will also help jumpstart local economy as infrastructure projects resume. Once completed, the sewerage services in the area will help restore Hinulugang Taktak Falls to its old glory.

The Hinulugang Taktak Sewage Treatment Plant is the fifth, and largest, wastewater treatment facility that Manila Water has built within the province of Rizal. This is in addition to the existing 41 wastewater treatment facilities that Manila Water has built and is now operating across the East Zone. Once completed, the total wastewater treatment capacity will be increased to 426 MLD.

Currently in pre-construction stages and are expected to commence construction soon are five (5) other significant wastewater treatment infrastructure projects within Manila Water’s concession area.
