Essential oils and balms are must-have products for the aging population. Today, these products are also gaining popularity among younger consumers who often refer to themselves as “titos” or “titas”. As part of the “tita/tito starter pack”, a ready topical solution for minor body pains is a must-have.
Given the importance of analgesic balms to the Filipinos, the Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), developed its own analgesic balm made from local and plant-based ingredients. The natural-based analgesic balm consists of natural essential oils of ginger, which provides 94.3 percent protection against pain, and lemongrass at 56.5 percent protection, as active ingredients.
This technology has been developed to provide a substitute to imported synthetic analgesics for relief of pain and discomfort. The solution has also undergone clinical testing, and was found safe to use with dermal irritation test. It is a cost-effective alternative in relieving minor pain associated with arthritis, muscle pains, joint pains, bruises, cramps, and body pains.
