As part of the vigorous support to the stakeholders, the Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) has conducted the first-ever DOST-TAPI Awards on 25 January 2019 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.
The awarding which coincided with the Director’s Report and the 32nd Anniversary of the Institute have given due recognition to worthy beneficiaries of some of DOST-TAPI’s Programs.
These beneficiaries through their technologies and innovations have successfully contributed positive impacts to socio-economic aspects of the country in various priority areas specified by the Department.
“The strategic designs of our programs support our stakeholders through the provision of both technical and financial assistance in whichever phase they are in the commercialization path,” said DOST-TAPI Director Edgar I. Garcia.
He added that such Programs support the stakeholders from the conception of ideas to eventually technology commercialization and marketing.
Included in the roster of recognitions is the Major Awards – Gawad Masaligan and Gawad Katha-Likha, and Special Awards – Gawad Dagta, Gawad Dagitab, Gawad Dagisik, and Gawad Salin.
Gawad Masaligan
The Gawad Masaligan is an award given by the Venture Financing Program for the best beneficiary of the Program in terms of repayment of the assistance provided to them, signifying the effect on operations including sales and profit increase, employment generation, and market expansion.
The Program accelerates the commercialization of innovative, new, and emerging technologies by providing the necessary funding support to start-ups and technology-based expansion projects.
An acronym for Maasahan sa Lipunan, Galing sa Negosyo, the award represents an attribute of a good recipient with a successful business, impacting notably to the society.

Gawad Katha-Likha
The Gawad Katha-Likha is an award given to worthy inventors and researchers who have disclosed their valuable knowledge on their filed intellectual property (IP) through the assistance of the Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP).
The IPRAP provides assistance in securing IP protection, containing funding support for payment of filing fees for utility model registration or patent applications of by Filipino inventors and researchers.
The award was categorized into three – the Research and Development Institute (RDI), Researcher, and Individual Inventor categories.

Gawad Dagta, Dagitab, and Dagisik
The following awards are given to the Technology Innovation for Commercialization (TECHNICOM) beneficiaries who have successfully contributed to some of the priority areas of the Department particularly in the agriculture, industry, and health sectors.
The TECHNICOM Program provides development support to commercially-viable projects through financial and technical assistance in fast-tracking the transfer and commercialization of research results.
The awardees are selected based on the novelty, market potential, commercialization status, and socio-economic impact of their projects and technologies.
The Gawad Dagta or Dakilang Ambag sa Teknolohiya at Siyensiyang Agrikultura is given to the outstanding beneficiary with the most promising technology especially in its significant contribution in agriculture, aquaculture, and natural resources.
BioGroe® Technology by Dr. Ronilo P. Violanta wins the Gawad Dagta during the 1st DOST-TAPI Awards on 25 January 2019 at the PICC
Meanwhile, the Gawad Dagitab or Dakilang Ambag at Gabay sa Industriya sa Tulong ng Teknolohiya at Agham para sa Bayan is given to promising TECHNICOM-funded emerging technology which has evidently impacted the economy particularly in the industry and energy sector.
Lastly, the Gawad Dagisik or Dakilang Ambag sa Imbensyon at Siyensiyang Pangkalusugan is given to health-related technology and innovation which poses huge potential for successful commercialization.

Gawad Salin
The Gawad Salin is an award given by the Technology Transfer Day Project to the best Technology Transfer and Business Development Officer (TTBDO) who facilitated the most number of technologies transferred to the intended market.

Conceived in 2016, the Technology Transfer Day brings locally-developed technologies to possible technology investors and adoptors.
