UNITED DISASTER MANAGEMENT ACTION PLAN: DOST LEADS MEETING ON THEMATIC DISASTER MANAGEMENT ACTION PLAN

Various agencies in Region 7 yesterday held a meeting to hold thematic discussion on disaster prevention and mitigation in Central Visayas.

The meeting, which was spearheaded by the Department of Science, was Technology and held at the DOST S&T Complex in Lahug, Cebu City,

In his message to participants, DOST 7 Regional Director Edilberto Paradela said the objective of the meeting was to create synergy among government agencies and stakeholders in their efforts at creating risk and disaster-resilient communities.

Through coordination, Paradela said, government agencies, institutions and other stakeholders can come up with integrated Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) plans and activities to ensure disaster preparedness among vulnerable communities in the region.

In the meeting, the participating agencies presented their respective plans and programs touching on four DRRM thematic areas, namely, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response, Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery for consideration of the group in its plan for coordinated action it is going to take.

Attending the inter-agency meeting were representatives from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Social Security System (SSS), DOST PAGASA –Visayas, AFP-CentCom, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), National Telecommunications Commission(NTC), Department of Tourism (DOT), DOST 7, Federation of Volunteers through Radio Communications (FVRC), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
