INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (ITDI) HOLDS ITS CELEBRATION OF ITS 115TH FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY

The  Industrial Technology  Development   Institute (ITDI) one  of  the  attached  agency of  Department of  Science  and Technology (DOST) held  its 115th  Foundation  Anniversary with  its Guest of  Honor, the  newly appointed  Secretary of  DOST, Sec. Fortunato  de la Pena,  and  the  Mayor  of  Taguig  City,  Hon. Lanie  Cayetano, and  with  the  presence  of  Coun.  Jojo Iron, on Thursday,  July 1, 2016 at  the  Advanced  Device  and  Materials  Testing  Laboratory  (ADMEL),  DOST  Compound, Bicutan, Taguig City.

 

The  DOST  acknowledged  the  presence  of  two  high  ranking  officials of  South Korea in  the persons  of  :  HAI-DOO KIM, PhD, President-Korea Institute of  Materials  Science (KIMS-ASEAN) and  BYUNG-SUM  KIM, PhD, Director, KIMS.

 

Likewise, present during the event were the following; PATRICIA V. AZANZA, PhD, Director, ITDI; BESSIE A.  BASILLA, PhD., Chief, MSD, ITDI; MARISSA A. PAGCALICAWAN, PhD., Project Leader, ITDI, KIMS Project; Engr. REYNALDO L. ESGUERRA, OIC, Deputy Director for R& D, ITDI; Engr. RAMON M. BRANZUELA, Chief  Planning Division, Phil. Fiber Industry  Development Authority (PHILFIDA), MR. JEFFREY SAMONTE,GNOSTEK, Inc. and Engr. REYNALDO C. ESGUERRA, OIC, Deputy for R&D, ITDI.

 

The  theme  for  this  year’s  celebration  of  its 115th  Foundation  Anniversary is simply  “NOON, NGAYON, BUKAS”.

 

Dr. Ma. Patricia V. Azanza, ITDI, Director,  in her  welcome  remarks, was  very  much  elated to  spoke  in  behalf  of  the  ITDI  that  through  the  years  they  have  gone  a  milestone in  achieving  the  highest  performance  of  innovations  in  the  field of  Science  and  Technology.  Their  Institution   have  grown  into  a  globally competitive    by  providing  Research   and  Development  and  the  Technical  Services  that  they  have  extended  to the  MICRO, SMALL  and  MEDIUM  ENTERPRISES (MSMEs) scales  both in  government  and  private  sectors.

 

The  ITDI and  their  employees, scientists  and  the  technical  experts  have  used  their  resources  and  the   state –of-the-art  facilities  in order  to  develop, strengthen,  and  sustain  business  services  in  our  country.

 

The  facilities  that  they  have  recently  developed  were  the  following:  BIOLOGICAL  TESTING  LABORATORIES,  METROLOGY  IN CHEMISTRY, NANO TECHNOLOGY  LABORATORY,  PACKAGING LABORATORY,  ADMATEL  OR  ADVANCED  DEVICE  AND  MATERIALS  TESTING  LABORATORY,  NATIONAL  METROLOGY  LABORATORY ( accredited by  the  Federal Republic of  Germany, DEUTSCHE AKKREDITIERUNGSSTELLE(DAKKS) and  DOST-ITDI FOOD PROCESSING MACHINES.

 

At  this  point,  DOST-ITDI  announce   that  the  following  technologies  are  now ready for  transfer, to  wit:

  1. ITDI  Monascus  purpureus  whole  cell  laboratory  scale  color  production technology .
  2. FREEZE-dried avocado using DOST- developed freeze dryer.
  3. Powdered egg albumin  using  the DOST  developed spray dryer
  4. Carrot chips using DOST-developed  vacuum  fryer
  5. Chill oil using DOST-developed  water retort
  6. Emergency Food Reserve (EFR)

 

Meanwhile, to coincide with its celebration is the LAUNCHING of “TRYK NI JUAN”.

ITDI TRYK NI JUAN

The  DOST-ITDI   have  developed  a  tricycle  first  of  its  kind  in  our  country.  This  project  is  a  collaborative  research  works  between  ITDI  and  Korea Institute  of  Materials  Science (KIMS).  They  have  developed this  in order  to  respond   the  call  of  a  greener  environment  and  the  negative  impact  of  climate  change. The  materials  used  for   this  TRYK  comes  from  the  abaca  fiber , one  of  our  local  and  abundant  plants  in  our  country.

 

Through  further  research  and  careful  studies  of  ITDI and  KIMS,  both  jointly  agreed  to  use  abaca  fiber  with  the  combination  of  resin  as  a composite  materials  for  roofing  and  the  sidecar  of  the  tricycle .

 

During  the  Press  Conference  one  of  the  questions  asked  by  media   was  regarding  the  durability  of  the  unit  during  tricycle  crash.  The  panelist  replied  that  the  materials  used  to fabricate  the  roof  and  the  sidecar  of  the  tricycle  was  made  of  abaca fiber  combined  with  resins,  he  gave  his  assurance  that  even if  this  is  the  first  time  in  our  country  this  is  durable  and  safe  because everything  had  passed  the  requirements  and  meet  the  standards   in compliance  for  fabrication.

 

For  the  record, there  are  15 units  to  be  fabricated  and  later  on  to  be  deployed  for  actual  road  tests  and  break-ins.#
