CP WASH Project for Negros Oriental farmers

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has recently turned over a community-managed potable water supply, sanitation and hygiene (CPWASH) project to Caticugan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (CARBA) in Caticugan, Siaton, Negros Oriental.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Office II Louie L. Naranjo said that the local government unit of Siaton allotted P80,000 for the construction of the project, the DAR contributed P170,000 for capacity development, the barangay local government unit shelled out Ᵽ24,000 and CARBA extended their labor as counterpart.

Naranjo said the CPWASH Project is composed of four sub-projects: the rain water collector to accumulate and store rainwater for reuse before it reaches the aquifer, the bio- sand filters to remove pathogens and suspended solids and reduce discoloration, odor and unpleasant taste, the iron removable filter to screen iron from water and eliminate ugly staining and unpleasant tastes and odor of the water, bio-gas digester to turn organic waste into usable fuel.

Among those officials who attended the turn-over ceremony were Siaton Mayor Alberto G. Ator, DAR CARPO for PBDD Grace F. Mapili, Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Angeline Gadingan, Barangay Captain Nina Theresa Ragay and CARBA officials. -30- ( Gherlene Mae B.
