CSC GRANTS PAMANANG LINGKOD BAYANI AWARD TO SLAIN PDEA AGENT

An operative of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), who died in the line of duty, was awarded the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) under the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. said that aside from the recognition, the bereaved family of the late Investigation Agent 1 Joel L. Genita, a member of the Drug Enforcement Officers’ Basic Course (DEOBC) Class 2008-03 “Masidlak” of the PDEA Academy, was granted educational assistance and financial benefits under the PLBi.

“The PLBi is a tribute program as commendation to civilian public servants who displayed the characters of a bayani in the name of public service and died in the dedicated performance of their duties, functions and responsibilities,” Cacdac said.

Genita as a Pamanang Lingkod Bayani, will received the following recognition, and scholarship grants and monetary incentive due to his beneficiaries:

  1. A posthumous award/citation in the form of plaque signed by the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani Executive Committee Chair;
  1. Discount on tuition and school fees to his three (3) immediate family members in any of the 110-member institutions of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC); or with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); and
  1. One-time financial assistance of P100, 000 shall be given to his bereaved family.

On December 15, 2014, at around 12 noon, elements of PDEA Regional Office 10 (PDEA RO10) conducted an entrapment operation in Sto Niño, Barangay 31, Cagayan de Oro City that led to the arrest of six drug personalities and seizure of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, several drug paraphernalia, one cal. 45 pistol, two magazines and nine pieces of live ammunition.

Genita, a member of the operating team, bravely ran after an armed suspected pusher who tried to elude arrest by engaging in a firefight, fatally shooting Genita. The location of the operation is a squatter’s area and is one of the seriously drug-affected barangays in the city due to the operation of numerous drug dens.

“In remembrance of IA1 Genita whose name is etched on the PDEA black granite honor wall, his dedication, selflessness and sacrifice will continue to be remembered by us,” the PDEA chief noted.
