QC TO HAVE MORE PROJECTS FOR PWDs

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has unveiled plans for the adoption of a comprehensive development program for the benefit of all persons with disability (PWDs) in QC.  Mayor Bautista cited the move as imperative in the city government’s continuing effort to make all its programs socially inclusive even to PWDs.

“What the city will be doing right now is plan our investments for us to able to address the city’s various health challenges, especially those concerns affecting PWDs in the city,” the Mayor said.

Under Ordinance 2377 S-2014, Quezon City is mandated to set aside, beginning in 2016, a one percent budget from its yearly Internal Revenue Allocation (IRA) to carry out programs that will promote the welfare and interests of PWDs in the city. The one percent allotment is pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 2014-59 of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) which encourages local chief executives to allocate 1% of their respective budget for programs related to senior citizens and the disabled.

The ordinance, principally authored by Councilor Raquel Malangen, shall cover PWDs who have registered with the city’s social services development department.(Maureen Quiñones, PAISO)
