Boracay Water inks deal for more projects in Aklan

In the recently concluded Aklan Investors’ Forum, Boracay Water signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Provincial Government of Aklan to further contribute to the rapid and sustainable development of the province by expanding its business operations from the current 3 barangays in Malay to the entire Province of Aklan.
In the next two to three years, Aklan is seen to benefit from an estimated P20-billion worth of public and private investments with agriculture, tourism and manufacturing sectors as projected key growth areas.
According to Boracay Water General Manager Joseph Michael Santos, a key component in sustaining tourism and economic opportunities includes more efficient water services. “Since it started operations in 2010, Boracay Water has shown its support for Aklan’s continued development by implementing projects amounting to over P1billion, centered on improving the provision of water and used water services in its concession area,” said Santos.
He added that in line with the investment forecast for the coming years, Boracay Water has already financed two major projects with a total cost of almost P600 million. The construction of the Nabaoy water transmission line will increase water supply capacity from 14.5 million liters per day (MLD) to 20 MLD by the end of this year. On the other hand, the completion of the Manocmanoc Sewer Network and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in 2016 with a capacity to treat 5 MLD will increase used water coverage in the Island of Boracay to 75% from 35% as of end of 2014.
With the joint understanding, projects for the domestic, commercial and industrial water requirements in Aklan will soon be established.
Boracay Water, a subsidiary of Manila Water Philippine Ventures, is formed through a partnership with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority in 2009. Currently, the company provides water and used water services in Boracay, Malay, Aklan particularly in the barangays of Manocmanoc, Balabag and Yapak.
