DTI nurtures entrepreneurial potentials of 62 OFWS

The DTI-Quirino in coordination with Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) held a one-day Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) and Business Planning Workshop last March 25, 2015 at the Municipal Social Hall of Maddela, Quirino.

About 62 former Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) from the province of Quirino and Isabela participated in the training.

DTI Quirino Provincial Caretaker Ms. Preciosa Maglaya said that, the conduct of the EDT and Business Planning workshop is in support to the reintegration program of the government for the displaced OFWs who lost their jobs abroad due to various reasons.

PC Maglaya said that, the EDT aims to help OFWs identify other alternative sources of income that will greatly contribute in their plans of starting a new life in the country. According to her this can be achieved through venturing into entrepreneurships and livelihood programs offered by DTI.

“These present and future entrepreneurs will be the beneficiaries of the Negosyo Center to be established at the DTI-Quirino Provincial Office” she added.

Among the topics discussed were Basic Entrepreneurship, How to start a business and Business Planning Workshop. As part of the workshop, participants were able to produce individual business plans for their current and future business engagements as individual outputs.

Through the EDT, the participants will be able to avail of the services provided by the Reintegration program of the Government and also help them in their availing of loans from financing institutions.

The activity also gave Ms. Zenaida Dulnuan, President of the Blue Ladies Organization of San Dionisio II, Nagtipunan, Quirino an opportunity to avail one of DTI’s SME Development Programs, particularly on the skills training.
Ms. Dulnuan requested the assistance of DTI in the conduct of skills training on Smoked Fish Processing for their organization.
