DTI – 3 has Php 61.44 Million BuB projects for 2015 for 54 LGUs

The Department of Trade and Industry – Central Luzon (DTI – 3) is set to implement Php 61.437 Million worth of projects under the Bottom Up Budgeting (BuB) program. For the current year, DTI – 3 will implement twice the number of projects it implemented last year under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB). Fifty four (54) new BuB projects are set to be implemented in 76 local government units (LGUs) in the region. The total cost for the program is more than ten times the total cost last year.

Last year, DTI – 3 implemented Php 5.547 Million worth of projects under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) program in four (4) provinces of Central Luzon. A total of 25 projects were implemented last year with Bulacan having fourteen (14) projects at a cost of PHp 3.595 Million.

Meanwhile, eight (8) projects worth Php 677,000.00 were implemented in Nueva Ecija, two (2) projects worth Php 950,000.00 were implemented in Pampanga and Tarlac had one (1) project worth Php 425,000.00. Majority of the projects involved entrepreneurial and livelihood skills training for women, indigenous people and farmers. Under one of the projects, barangay officials were trained on business registration. Other noteworthy projects implemented by DTI – 3 under GPB involved the provision of starter kits for wives of tricycle drivers for trainings like Bag Making, Smoked Fish Production, Meat Processing, Hair Science and other entrepreneurial skills training.

Under the GPB scheme, local government units are given the opportunity to identify and initiate appropriate projects for implementation by national agencies. One of the agencies tasked to implement these projects is DTI, which provide livelihood and support services such as trainings, business development services and resource mobilization to GPB beneficiaries. These projects then lead in the establishment and development of competent Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the different parts of the region.

Director Judith P. Angeles of DTI – 3 hopes that all 54 LGUs are qualified to implement the BuB projects with DTI so that the people in the barangays will benefit from them
