Firearms, ammos seized

An active marine non-commissioned officer was arrested by combined elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Philippine Navy (PN) during a buy-bust operation in Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City on May 29, 2015. The operation also resulted in the confiscation of a firearm and ammunition.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. identified the arrested suspect as Corporal Jose Ibba y Coronel, an active member of the Philippine Marine Battalion Landing Team 11, Philippine Marines in Brgy. Kabatangan, Zamboanga City. He is a resident of Paseo de Putik, Guiwan, Zamboanga City.

Ibba was arrested by combined elements of PDEA Regional Office 9 (PDEA RO9) under Director Joseph C. Ladip and Station 2, Marine Battalion Landing Team 9 during a buy-bust operation in 36 Valor, Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City after he received marked money
in exchange for one piece of small heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet of shabu.

The operation yielded one Norinco caliber 45 pistol, five pieces of ammunition for caliber 45, one magazine of caliber 45 pistol and one brown wallet with various identification cards.

Ibba is temporarily detained at the PDEA Regional Office 9 jail facility. He will be facing charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs
Act of 2002. An additional charge for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) will also be filed against him.

On May 29, 2015, at around 7:00 am, combined elements of PDEA Regional Office 1 under Director Adrian G. Alvariño, Rosario Police Station, La Union Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG), Naval Intelligence Service Group
(NISG), and Regional Intelligence Unit-1 implemented two search warrants against Ariesteo Soriano y Oropilla, 35; and Antonio Sabangan y Selga, alias Tonyo, 46, both residents of Poblacion East, Rosario,La Union.

Confiscated from Soriano were six pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing two grams; Sabangan yielded 29 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu weighing approximately eight grams and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Soriano and Sabangan will be facing charges for violation of Section 11, Article II of RA 9165. An additional charge for violation of Section 12 (Possession of Equipment and Other
Paraphernalia for Dangerous Drugs), will be filed in court against Sabangan. (Mr. Glenn J. Malapad, OIC, Public Information Office, PDEA)
