COMPLAINT FILED AGAINST ALLEGED TAIWANESE POACHERS

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Ang fisheries bureau sa Region 02 ay nagsampa ng criminal and administrative complaints laban sa hinihinalang Taiwanese poachers na nahuli sa Babuyan Claro noong June 11. Ang reklamo ay inihain sa Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Cagayan and at the BFAR Central Office para sa administrative case.

Batay sa ulat ng Quick Response Team members of the BFAR R02, nagsasagawa sila ng on-board Philippine Coast Guard-manned BFAR Patrol Vessel MCS 3007, nang makakita sila ng isang nakahintong fishing vessel na halos 17 NM northeast off Babuyan Claro sa Calayan Group of Islands. Ang MCS 3007 ay pinangungunahan ni Captain Allen Toribio.

Sa malapitang inspeksyo, nakita nila na ang watawat ng Pilipinas pero ang nagpapatakbo ng naturang fishing vessel ay isang Taiwanese officer, nang inspeksyonin nila ang mga papeles ng vessel ay napag-alaman nila ito bilang F/B Der Maan Fure No. 03 with side mark CT3-5399 na nakarehistro sa Taiwan.

Sabi ng bagong chief of the law enforcement division of BFAR R02 na si Atty. Samuel Agaloos, “The vessel was lying-to or steady at the time of apprehension. It was not in distress and its radio buoys (used in long line fishing) were deployed, indicating that it was fishing at the time of apprehension.”

Sa ngayon, ang mga Taiwanese na kinilala bilang sina Lin Dah Gwo at Wu Jenq Shyong ay nasa kustudiya na ng PCG sa Port Irene, Sta. Ana, Cagayan.

Samantala, nagsiwalat si BFAR Dir. Atty Asis G. Perez sa kanyang pagbisita kamakailan na ang ahensiya ay nag-deploy ng 71 units na small patrol boats sa buong bansa, at magpanukalang magtamo ng 27 units 44-footer patrol boats and 2 multi-mission sea crafts.

Ang teknolohiya at iba pang interventions ay nasa kamay na ng mga mangingisda upang higit pang makinabang bukod pa sa marine resources sa ating bansa. “We are a maritime country and we have to act as one,” Dir. Perez noted
