The Quezon City Public Library and Information Center (QCPLIC) now provides free computer access service to QC jobseekers who want to make online job applications as well as apply for clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation.
This after the QCPLIC joined hands with the NBI in an effort to minimize long queues of clearance applicants at the NBI satellite office at QC Hall.
According to QCPLIC head Emelita Villanueva , QC ’s main library and five library branches are now offering this free service.
“We want to give our citizens the comfort of applying for clearances in some government agencies by allowing them to use the computers readily available in our public libraries to secure pertinent papers online,” Villanueva said.
This beyond-mandate activity of the QCPLIC is in line with its program of helping the government brings employment opportunities to more people, Villanueva added.
Aside from the main library, other QC libraries offering free computer access for online applications are the branch libraries at Novaliches and Lagro, and district libraries at Cubao, Project 8 and Project 4.
Other government services available online are those for birth, death and marriage certificates, changing registry documents, postal ID, police clearance, driver’s license, passport, voters registration, overseas voting registration, GSIS membership, SSS membership, PhilHealth, benefits for senior citizens, PWD and solo parent ID.
More than 1,721 have availed of the QCPLIC computer service since the program started last April.
Villanueva also said that the city library is providing free tutorial classes to city residents, especially out-of-school youth (OSY), who are interested to have additional knowledge in computer operations. The city libraries are also Wifi zones, thus offering free internet access. (Rico)
