QC TO HAVE MOST CENSUS JOBS THIS YEAR

More than 2,800 jobs await Quezon City residents in the forthcoming 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN), the most allotted to a single local government unit.

Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has directed the Barangay Operations Center (BOC) and the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) to immediately inform the city’s 142 barangays of the job opening for a total of 2,864  census enumerators needed by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) this coming August.

The directive came after city civil registrar Ramon Matabang asked PSA provincial officer for NCR Dorotea Lilia R. Nuesca to let the QC government, through PESO, conduct the pre-selection or screening of census enumerators who will go house to house in different barangays to secure the needed data for the 2015 POPCEN.

Matabang said that it is better to have census enumerators in QC who are residents of the barangay where they shall be assigned because of their familiarity with the area, and for security and accuracy purpose.

A census enumerator will be receiving a daily rate of P481, including the one week training pay from PSA from July 13 onwards. Aside from salary, enumerators will have free transportation for their field assignment everyday. The contract of each field enumerators will be for 25 days field work from August 1 to 30.

Some of the qualifications of census enumerator are:  preferably college graduate or has completed at least second year college; not more than 50 years old; with pleasing personality and ability to deal with the public tactfully; of good moral character; with legible handwriting, preferably in printed capital letters; willing to work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and beyond 5 PM; physically fit for field work, preferably with mobile cellular phone; able to speak the local dialect; preferably a resident of the census enumeration area of assignment or a resident of the city; willing to be assigned in any barangay; and with no existing work contract with other agencies.

In the 2010 census, the country registered a total population of 92,337,852 as of May 1, 2010. QC had a 2,761,720 population with Barangay Commonwealth having the biggest number at 186,543 residents, followed by Barangay Batasan Hills with 150,764.

The POPCEN 2015 aims to provide government executives, policy and decision makers, and planners with  accurate population data, especially updated population counts of all barangays in the country, on which to base their social and economic development plans, policies and programs. (Maureen)
