QC SEEKS MORE SUPPLIERS FOR CITY MARKET FAIR

Plans are underway for the expansion of the Quezon City government’s farmer-to- consumer program.

According to Mayor Herbert Bautista, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte, through   Gov. Imee Marcos, has expressed interest in forging a partnership with the city   government where they shall bring the farm and agricultural produce of the province directly to Quezon City and its residents.

The Mayor said the move is expected to bring about economic and tourism gains both for Quezon City and Ilocos Norte, which is well known for its rice, corn, garlic and tobacco produce.

Mayor Bautista said the office of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte will be closely coordinating with the officials of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte to facilitate the forging of the partnership.

Aside from Ilocos Norte, Gen. Santos City, the country’s tuna capital, is also interested in partnering with QC for the farmer-to-consumer program, which was launched by Mayor Bautista and Vice Mayor Belmonte in August last year.  This is an effort to reduce prices to end-consumers, while protecting them from unscrupulous traders and price manipulators thru direct access to basic goods and commodities without the need for middlemen.

The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya was the first to partner with the QC government in the program, which is being implemented through a regular market fair at QC Hall in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).(Precy)
