MAYOR ORDERS PRODUCTIVE USE OF ALL IDLE GOV’T PROPERTIES

Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has ordered an extensive inventory of city-owned idle properties, such as buildings and warehouses, so that these can be transformed into economically performing assets. Some may be viable for joint ventures with business, under private-public partnership arrangements. Others may be useful for social objectives, especially as the QC government is continuously on the lookout for properties for school buildings and health facilities, given the city’s large population that requires these basic services.

Warehouses, forfeited in favor of the local government, as a result of auction proceedings, can be leased to manufacturers to encourage more to locate in Quezon City , or developed into common service facilities which micro and small businesses can share to help ensure the viability of these businesses.

Mayor Bautista added that the city government is planning to develop areas along Quirino Highway as a manufacturing district, to boost enterprise activities in Districts 5 and 6.

He also instructed Business Permits and Licensing chief Gary Domingo to continue reforms to make business registration applications and renewals easier in the city. “We should make doing business in Quezon City as easy as possible; steps should be simple,” he said.

The pressure to have more public school buildings has increased in anticipation of the initial nationwide implementation of K +12’s senior high school program in SY 2016-2017. The problem is existing properties occupied by public schools in QC are almost fully utilized; thus, the need for other properties. This is where the comprehensive inventory will come in handy.
