QC EMPLOYS 350 STUDENTS THIS SUMMER

The Quezon City government is employing 350 students this summer vacation to provide them an opportunity to earn money to finance part of their school needs.

Dubbed as “Hanapbuhay 2015,” Mayor Herbert M. Bautista said that the employment of poor but deserving youth forms part of the city government’s goal of curbing joblessness in the city.

Under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) or  the Summer Job Program 2015, Mayor Bautista said that student-trainees will be tapped by the city government and deployed in different offices in cityhall and barangays to do clerical, field, monitoring and survey work.

A student-trainee will receive P9,320 as salary for 20 days of work based on prevailing  minimum wage of P466 per day. Sixty percent or P5,592 at P279.60/day of the salary will be funded by the QC government fund, while forty percent or P3,728 at P186.40/day will be funded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Education is a priority program of the Bautista administration. SPES, which started in 1993, is one of QC government vehicles for ensuring that even the poor but deserving youth will have access to good education.
