QC READY TO CLAMP DOWN ON LPG SHORTSELLING

Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has warned liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dealers to have their gas delivered at 11 kilos or be penalized.

This after Mayor Bautista signed into law an ordinance requiring all businesses engaged in LPG trading to deliver their supplies showing the weight of the LPG tank for which the consumers are paying.

Ordinance No. SP-2376, S-2014 requires dealers/retailers of LPG to have a weighing machine during delivery, providing penalties for violation thereof, and for others purposes.

The ordinance states that all LPG consumers must be assured that the supply they get is what they are paying for.

According to 2nd District Councilor Alexis Herrera, who authored the ordinance, there are unscrupulous LPG dealers and retailers who shortsell the consumers by distributing a cylinder tank with lighter gas content.

The QC government should deter deceitful traders from short-changing the consumers who, at present, have to rely on the honesty and goodwill of the distributor, Herrera said.

The presence of weighing scale during delivery will prevent short-selling and will guaranty consumers of the exact weight of cooking gas they are buying if the LPG tank is weighed in their presence, Herrera added.

If found guilty of violating the measure, a trader will be charged of P1,000 for the first offense; P3,000 for the second offense and P5,000 for the third offense or penalized with revocation of their business permit to operate.

The business permit and licensing office (BPLO) was tasked to promulgate the rules and regulations as may be necessary to implement the provisions of the new ordinance.
