QC MULLS OVERPASS – WELCOME ARCH AT MINDANAO AVENUE

The Quezon City government is asking  the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) to put up a pedestrian overpass cum welcome arch at Mindanao Avenue , particularly at the QC boundary with Valenzuela City .

Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has directed the city engineering department to coordinate with the city planning and development office (CPDO) to discuss the project with the MNTC.

Bautista wants the boundary marker as functional, thus, making it a pedestrian overpass too, with design distinct only to QC. The iconic overpass will also form part of the city’s tourism attractions.

As complement, the Mayor has ordered the parks development administration department (PDADF) to undertake the greening of QC boundaries as part of the city’s beautification and tourism promotion.

Earlier, the QC Council passed Resolution 5921, introduced by Councilor Roderick Paulate, for the facilitation of the installation or construction of welcome arches in ten major entry points in QC bearing the statement “Welcome to Quezon City , the City of Stars .”

Proposed locations for the arches are: Batasan-San Mateo Road (Between Batasan Hills and San Mateo, Rizal); Quirino Highway (between Pasong Putik and Caloocan North); General Luis (between Nagkaisang Nayon and Caloocan North); Edsa (between Unang Sigaw-Balingasa and Caloocan South); North Diversion Road (between Balumbato and Caloocan South); Mindanao Avenue (between Bulacan and Barangay Talipapa); Quezon Avenue (near QC-Manila boundary); Aurora Boulevard (between Doña Imelda and San Juan); Edsa (near QC boundary with Mandaluyong and Pasig City); and Aurora Boulevard (between Loyola Heights and Marikina City).

Councilor Paulate said that the welcome arches will always remind the commuters and motorists that QC is home to major  television studios, movie productions outfits and recording companies.
