QC GAD COUNCIL TWG MEMBERS TO ATTEND BUDGETING COURSE

Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, who is also Chairman of the QC Gender and Development (GAD) Council, has directed the city’s GAD Technical Working Group (TWG) members to attend a gender responsive planning and budgeting certificate course on May 18-21, 2015 at the Miriam College , Katipunan Avenue , Loyola Heights , Quezon City .

The 3-day training course will be conducted by the Women and Gender Institute (WAGI), a Miriam College advocacy center that promotes gender equality, women’s empowerment and gender-fair education.

The QC GAD Council’s decision to send representatives to the training course is pursuant to Joint Circular No. 2012 of the PCW-NEDA-DBM for the full implementation of the Magna Carta of Women, and intended to strengthen the city’s advocacy work on gender and development.

As Chairman of the QC GAD Council, Mayor Bautista wants QC to continue to aspire to be a gender-friendly community. The Mayor has requested the city council to come up with measures that will strengthen the practice of observing gender equality among QC residents, and also at QC Hall and the city’s 142 barangays.

The Quezon City Government is a leading LGU in GAD advocacy work. It passed the pioneering Gender-fair City Ordinance (SP-2357) in 2014, the measure protecting lesbians, gays and transsexual rights in the workplace, in schools and in accessing basic services. The LGU is also a strong advocate of violence against women and children.
