Various religious and cultural activities will highlight festivities for the celebration of the Grand Pedrista Festival, which the QC Tourism Department has organized to promote the missionary zeal of San Pedro Bautista.
San Pedro Bautista, a Spanish Franciscan missionary who came to the Philippines in 1584, was the founder of the Sanctuario de San Pedro Bautista along Del Monte Avenue .
The Sanctuario de San Pedro Bautista is now considered as the oldest church in QC, having been established in 1590.
An art exhibition promoting the glorious life of San Pedro Bautista is QC’s centerpiece activity for the celebration of the Grand Pedrista Festival. At least 75 visual artworks have been commissioned by QC Hall as a tribute to San Pedro Bautista, who was noted for his work with lepers.
The celebration of the Grand Pedrista Festival, which will run from January 27 to February 8, also forms part of the city’s 75th Diamond Jubilee celebration. The event also coincides with the commemoration of the 418th year of the martyrdom of San Pedro Bautista.
An image of San Pedro Bautista was brought to the City Hall on January 27 where mass will be held in its honor until January 29.
A play depicting the life of San Pedro Bautista was also staged at QC Hall on January 27 with members of the QC Polytechnic University theater guild as performers.
