QC REPORTS ON FIELD SERVICES DURING PAPAL VISIT

Quezon City joined the massive mobilization for emergency preparedness and management operations in the recently concluded five-day Papal visit by providing rescue personnel and several emergency response vehicles to effectively respond during emergency situations arising during the Pope’s visit.

In a report submitted to Mayor Herbert Bautista, QC Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (QCDRRMC) action officer Elmo San Diego said that the city’s rescue team deployed near the Apostolic Nunciature during the five-day event had responded to some 90 medical cases, majority of which involved devotees who suffered from dizziness, elevated blood pressure, hypothermia and other minor injuries.

Two QC ambulances were used in transporting those needing hospitalization.

The city’s rescue team was composed of personnel from the search and rescue unit of the department of public order and safety and the QC Fire Department.

Two doctors from the East Avenue Medical Center had volunteered their services to assist the city’s rescue team.

Also mobilized during the event were personnel from the city’s public affairs and information services office, for monitoring and documentation, and the radio communication services group.

The QDRRMC has deployed over 60 city personnel for the Papal visit in Metro Manila.

The QC contingent, led by Mike Marasigan, officer-in-charge of the disaster control division of the DPOS, also documented the Papal events at the Manila Cathedral, University of Sto . Tomas and Quirino Grandstand in Luneta.  Marasigan

Meanwhile, Manolito Gallego, who was assigned as team leader of the QC task force for the Pope’s visit, represented QC for the incident management team in the regional level.
