QC OKAYS TAX RELIEF

The Quezon City government is now offering a tax relief on delinquent real properties.

Mayor Herbert Bautista has signed Ordinance No. SP 2363 S-2014 to grant relief to real property owners who have been delinquent for more than five years in paying real property taxes to the QC government.

The ordinance, authored by Councilor Victor V. Ferrer, Jr. of District 1, grants tax relief to QC real property taxpayers to allow them to settle their tax delinquencies and update their accounts.

Under the ordinance, those who have incurred more than five years of delinquency may avail themselves of the tax relief by paying to the city government the amount equivalent to the last five years of delinquency including the corresponding surcharges, penalties and interests.

The relief granted may be claimed by the taxpayer only during the period covered by the first six months of 2015 or from the first working day of January up to June 30 this year.

During this period, taxpayers may pay the total tax delinquencies from years 2010 to 2014, and are relieved from their obligation to pay delinquencies incurred prior to 2010.

Upon full payment of the 2010 to 2014 delinquencies, the taxpayers shall be allowed to make payment for the current year (2015).

The relief granted shall not apply to delinquent real properties that have already been auctioned in accordance with Section 260 of RA 7160 or are currently being settled or paid under a compromise or similar agreements and those with case pending with the QC Board of Assessment Appeal. (Mencio)
