Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has vowed to make the city more economically sound before his term ends.
His administration, Mayor Bautista told city hall executives during a regular meeting, will focus on private and public partnership (PPP), Quezon City Development Authority (QCDA) and the Philippine Diamond Tower, all intended for economic enterprise for the city in the coming years.
The Mayor said that there are already PPP projects in the pipeline that could boost the city’s economy, including the city’s market and slaughterhouses development and other city assets such as land and building that could be put into good use.
However, the Mayor said the QC Council should immediately fasttrack the approval of the PPP Code that will help the city jumpstart all PPP projects, as well as the passage of an ordinance dissolving the Housing and Urban Resettlement Authority (HURA) to pave the way for the institutionalization of the QCDA.
Mayor Bautista also said there is a need to resolve issues on the city’s assets by properly identifying the city-owned properties and pay the corresponding capital gains for the city to utilize it for worthy projects including PPP.
A property in Baesa, the Mayor cited, could be used by a company who would like to partner with the city government in the manufacturing of electric vehicles like tricycles.
At the same time, the Mayor revealed that the city government has partnered with Ateneo De Manila Loyola Professional Schools to create a framework for development especially for PPP projects.
He said that Ateneo will also assist his administration in the preparation for the business and economic summit this year.
