QC STARTS 72ND ANNIVERSARY FESTIVITIES

Events showcasing talent, beauty and ability will mark this year’s Quezon City observance of 72nd founding anniversary on October 12.

Aside from a series of religious, socio-civic and cultural activities, QC government has also lined-up different competitions to demonstrate the city residents’ natural gifts.

From beauty contests to skill and talent competitions, city residents will enjoy and can join the events such as Mutya ng Lungsod Quezon contest, street dance competition, visual arts competition, vocal solo competition, senior citizen’s night, drum and lyre band open competition, interpretative dancing competition, QC Bulilit King and Queen, Gandang Ngiti ni Lolo at Lola contest, Ms. QC Senior Citizen 2011, and Mother and Child Healthy Smile Contest.

The Taxpayers’ Night and Gawad Parangal are also among the festivities that Mayor Herbert Bautista will lead in this year’s celebration of the city’s founding anniversary.

The founding anniversary will be highlighted with “Misa ng Pasasalamat” on October 12 around 8:15 in the morning.

Aside from the mass and a testimonial dinner, the city government has also prepared different events such as the Barangay Best Practice photo exhibit by the Barangay Operation Center (BOC), the commemorative photo exhibit at Quezon Memorial Circle by the Public Affairs and Information Services Office (PAISO); launching of QC SHE-ROES by the Gender and Development Resources and Coordinating Office (GADRCO); inauguration of Parks Projects by Parks and Development Administration Department (PDAD); launching of tourism program with job fair by Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte’s Office; health wellness festival by Cultural and Tourism Affairs Office (CTAO); book fair by QC Public Library; Launching of Tandang Sora Year 2012 by Vice Mayor’s Office; Life Skills Training for Children in Conflict with the Law by Social Service Development Department (SSDD); medical mission with St. Luke’s Medical Center; Nutritional Assessment & Dietary Counseling and Pabasa sa Nutrisyon & IYCF Counseling  by Health Department (HD); and Food festival.

A colorful fireworks display will also add spice to the festivity on October 11.

The festivities this year officially started with the enthronement of the Our Lady of La naval at the QC Hall lobby on September 29, where daily masses and novenas in honor of the image will be held. Maureen Quiñones, PAISO
