QC MAYOR VOWS STRONGER TIES WITH CITY COUNCIL

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has assured his constituents of a closer cooperation between his administration and the city council as he led QC officials during the opening of the city’s celebration of the Philippine Councilors’ Week this year.

In his speech, the Mayor reiterated his administration’s continuing effort to improve its partnership with the city council “so we can improve symbiosis in policy objectives and thrusts.”

Underscoring the role of city legislators in bringing the benefits economic  growth to all  sectors of the city’s constituents, Mayor Bautista said: “Let us continue to work together to define more clearly our roadmap to greater work, while making sure that more of our constituents participate and benefit gainfully from this growth.”

Various charitable activities aimed at bringing city government services closer to the marginalized sector have been lined up by the 26-member QC Council from September 5 to 9 to highlight the city’s celebration of the Councilors’ Week.

The activities will include an area visit by councilors and their legislative staff to different QC government-run  institutions on Thursday (September 8), said Councilor Anthony Peter Crisologo, chair of the 2011 PCL Week celebration in QC.

Areas to be visited are the Abiertas House of Friendship, beside Camp Crame; Quirino Memorial Medical Center, in Proj. 4; the QC Female Dormitory (Correctional), at Camp Karingal and the National Orthopedic Hospital School for Crippled Children at D. Tuazon Street in Barangay Lourdes.

The Abiertas House of Friendship, which is home to unwed mothers and special children, will be provided with milk products, diapers and school supplies.

Meanwhile, the QC council will be providing medical supplies such as dextrose, catheters, oral rehydration salt and alcohol as well as distilled bottled water and linens to dengue patients confined at the Quirino Memorial Hospital.  Dengue patients confined at the hospital other than QC residents will also receive assistance from the city government, including those coming from Rizal and Pasig City.

Female inmates at the QC correctional will also be provided food assistance and toiletries.

For crippled children, some 50 monobloc chairs and white boards will be turned over to the children’s school of the National Orthopedic Hospital.

Members of the QC council are also scheduled to visit the city’s relocation site for informal settler families at San Mateo, Rizal.

Some 590 families relocated by the city will be provided food and medical assistance as well as clothing materials from the city government.

Meanwhile, Council members also participated in a blood-letting activity organized by the Philippine Red Cross at the QC Hall grounds during the opening of the PCL Week celebration.

The first week of September of every year was declared as Philippine Councilors’ Week under Presidential Proclamation 212 issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos.  Precy/ Ramir/ Maureen Quiñones, PAISO
