ZERO BASURA OLYMPICS FOR PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS

 

To continue the success of the first ever Zero Basura Olympics where business companies and local government units were recognized for their best waste management practices, the Earth Day Network Philippines, Inc. recently launched the Zero Basura Olympics for Private and Public Schools last March 11, 2011at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan of the Department of Education Central Office.

 

            On August 8, 2011, Monday, the Earth Day NetworkPhilippinesand Commission on Higher Education will be signing a Memorandum of Agreement for the ZBO for Private and Public Schools Project at the Executive Lounge, CHED Head Office, HEDC Bldg.,C.P. Garcia St., U.P. Diliman,Quezon City. The MOA Signing will signify the formal partnership of the two institutions for the said project.

 

            The aim of this round of ZBO is to educate the university students on the importance of environmental citizenship through solid waste management, enhance solid waste management systems in all academic institutions and to recognize those who are exemplary in their efforts.

 

            Interested participants for the program can register at the nearest CHED Regional Office where the school is located. They must fill out completely a registration form which can be obtained at the CHED Regional Office or which can be downloaded at http://www.earthdayphilippines.org and submit a documentary report of their solid waste management system. The documentary report must be encoded in a short bond paper using Arial 12 as their font and size and must be limited only to 10 pages. All documents, including the registration form, shall be encased to a short brown envelope and must be properly sealed before submitting to the respective CHED Regional Office. Acceptance of the documentary reports for the Regional Level shall start on September 19, 2011 and shall end on October 28, 2011.

 

            The ZBO for Private and Public Schools is in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education, the Office of the President – National Solid Waste Management Commission, DENR – Environmental Management Bureau, the Educational Network of the Philippines, Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management and Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.
