QC TO LAUNCH NEW FEEDING PROGRAM

In celebration of nutrition month, the Quezon City government will launch on July 29 the “Healthy and Bibo Kids Feeding Program” for school children.

The July 29 program aims to develop students with healthy mind and body and to continue with the implementation of the feeding program for schools with high incidence of severely wasted (malnourished) pupils this school year.

This program is part of the observance of nutrition month which is  held every July in accordance with Presidential Decree 491 known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines . In QC, the program has the theme: “Hamon sa Bayan:Isulong ang Breastfeeding –Tama, Sapat at Eksklusibo.”

The health and nutrition section, in partnership with the local school board and the   sponsors, like Julie’s Bakeshop, Mama Citas, Pascual Laboratories, Walter Bread, and others, will conduct a Nutri Fair from 8 am to 5 pm at the QC Hall Plaza.

Mayor Bautista will lead the actual feeding program with the distribution of freshly baked HB nutribreads, which will be provided by Julie’s bakeshop. The nutribreads contain iron to prevent anemia; protein for muscle and tissue building, carbohydrates for stronger body, and dietary fiber that prevents the risk of chronic diseases.

The HB nutribreads will be complemented by fortified milk or choco or green tea juice with L theanine, fluoride, antioxidants and calcium.

After the July 29 feeding activity, the QC government will continue to provide healthy snack products to students daily for 120 feeding days to help them meet their daily nutritional requirements and to contribute to their physical and emotional development.

Some 1,380 severely wasted school children are  the target beneficiaries for this school year’s HB feeding program. Included are the following schools per congressional district with the highest incidence of severely wasted Grades 1-3 schoolchildren:   San Jose Elementary School (District 1); Culiat Elementary School (District 2-A); Payatas B Elementary School (District 2-B) Balara Elementary School (District 3) and San Vicente Elementary School (District 4).

Before the feeding program, there will be a nutri parade to be participated by 10 representatives from each schools district; a nutri contests like on- the- spot poster making contest, malunggay cooking contest, healthy and bibo kid contest, jingle and rap singing contest, and sabayang bigkas contest.

There will also be a nutrifair booth where freebies will be given to school children from different sponsors. Maureen Quiñones, PAISO
