A contest for the purpose of efficiently teaching and learning science and mathematics, in this time of thickening (50 and more) classrooms population mostly in the secondary level was initiated by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).
Six high schools from different provinces nationwide compete for being the first two schools to have the Best Innovative Practices in Managing Large and Extra Large Classes in teaching science and mathematics.
Andres Bonifacio Integrated School in Mandaluyong City, Bacong National High School in Zamboanga del Norte, Looc National High School in Rizal and San Isidro National High School in Makati City will compete for being the best school in managing large classes (from 50 to 70).
Las Pinas East National High School and Navotas National High School almost level off with each other in becoming the best school in managing extra large classes (71 or more).
The six schools will receive P100,000 each from the DOST-SEI, in which P50,000 pesos was given upon presentation of the proposals in managing large and extra large classes submitted to DOST-SEI and the remaining P50,000 at the start of the third quarter.
After two quarters, the students placed under the implementation of the innovation will be assessed to determine the effectiveness of the innovation.
Each winning school in the two categories will receive additional P100,000 and a plaque of recognition to help improve further each class size teaching practices.
The six schools were chosen from the 35 public and private schools which submitted proposals on how they intend to innovate their practices in teaching science and mathematics.
