QC TO CRACK DOWN ON CRIMINALS USING MOTORCYCLES

The days of motorcycle- riding criminals are now numbered.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD), on orders of Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, will intensify police operation against motorcycling criminals riding in tandem, which are mostly operating on dark and dim-lighted streets in the city.

During a regular executive staff meeting, Mayor Bautista directed QCPD Director P/CSupt. George Regis to double police visibility at night in areas of call centers, television and radio networks, restaurants and malls.

The order came after reports have reached the Mayor’s office that crews from two giant television networks, ABS-CBN and GMA, had become victims of motorcycle gangsters riding in tandem.

The Mayor also ordered the city’s Task Force Streetlights to check unserviceable lamp posts or bulbs for immediate replacement or repair.

For his part, Regis vowed to put more choke and check points in strategic areas in the city and deploy more police and mobile patrol units which will use sirens and blinkers when going around their patrol areas.

At the same time, the QCPD director said that more police operatives clad in civilian clothes will also be deployed in crime-prone areas to conduct surveillance.

Regis admitted that the District Police Intelligence and Operation Unit (DPIOU) have already a list of suspects in motorcycle-aided robbery and snatching incidents in different areas of the city, and are now the object of manhunt operations.

He said the QCPD will be more vigilant and aggressive in watching criminals and putting them in jail, particularly those riding in tandem on motorcycles. He added these criminals are wrong if they think that the police operatives are more focusing in solving four-wheeled vehicle incidents like carnapping.

“Maybe an increase in crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding criminals was due to the fact that QCPD had focused in solving four-wheeled vehicle crimes as in the case of Teresita Teano who was killed last June 15. But now, it was solved and the suspect had been arrested and identified. The days of those criminals using motorcycles  are numbered,” Regis said.

“We will do our best to solve carnapping and other crimes involving motorcycle- riding criminals that greatly affect the city’s peace and order,’ he added. -30- Maureen Quinoñes, PAISO
