Members of the ICLEI Local Government for Sustainability are considering QC Mayor Herbert Bautista as one of the member mayors to be the next chair the World Mayors Council on Climate Change.
This opportunity was offered by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) during the 3- day (June 3-5) 2nd World Congress of Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change in Bonn, Germany attended by Bautista, other mayors, former mayors and other local leaders from 70 countries, including the Philippines.
If chosen, Mayor Bautista will replace Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard as chair. Mayor Ebrard has informed the group that he will resign from his position in preparation for running as president in the Mexican election next year.
Mayor Bautista strongly supports and advocates the use of eco-friendly technology and system to protect and save the environment and lessen the impact of climate change.
Bautista believes that working together to save the environment will help in the effort of reducing greenhouse gases and other pollution.
During the 3-day congress, topics on strategy on disaster risk reduction, climate change and humanitarian policy on saving children.
The ICLEI is an international association of local governments as well as national and regional local government organizations committed to sustainable development. It was founded in1990.
