QC TO BUILD MORE COVERED COURTS, DAYCARE CENTERS

More basketball stars may be in the making in Quezon City like former councilor and now coach Franz Pumaren.

This after Mayor Herbert M. Bautista vowed to include among his administration infrastructure development the construction of more classy and modern basketball covered courts in the city’s barangays.

During a regular executive staff meeting, Bautista revealed that sports development is one of the thrust and priority of infrastructure development in QC, where more than 40 covered basketball courts equipped with modern facilities such as digital scoreboard and fiberglass basketball goal are set to be constructed.

The young and active mayor believes that building more basketball courts will give more rooms for the city’s youth to be more active in sports especially in basketball, the most popular sports in the Philippines.

The move, Bautista said, will also prevent the youth from addiction to vices such as use of dangerous drugs, smoking, and alcoholism.

“We must focus now on sports development. We must give our youth more room to hone their skills in one of the Filipino’s favorite sports – basketball,” he said.

At the same time, the city government is set to build a football and tracking field or multi- purpose tracking field, also for sports development.

Mayor Bautista said that he already talked to Philippine Sport Commission President Peping Cojuangco for possible construction of a football field in the city.

Aside from sports development, the infrastructure development for 2012 of the Bautista administration will include construction of more school buildings and daycare centers.

The mayor said second floor of all daycare centers in 142 barangays will be constructed to become the venue for various trainings for mothers who are waiting to fetch their child in school.

This projects he said, will enable the mothers to make use of their time while their kids are in school. “We could train them in different livelihood program and personal development growth,” he said.

The city, the mayor said, will not fund a mere repainting of daycare centers, which is a waste of money. “What is more important is the construction of second floors for the daycare centers,” he said. -30- Maureen Quinones, PAISO
