Show that farming is profitable and sustainable

In the Philippine Agriculture, farmers have relied on subsistence farming, land reform was implemented without the necessary assistance to the farmers on modern technology credit and access to internet,  agricultural education have failed to teach farmers how to be profitable and agriculture as a profession has lost its appeal; especially among the youth.

To help remedy the situation and help in a way, MFI Farm Business Institute in Jala-jala, Rizal would like to change the mindset, to change the way future entrepreneurs are taught in agriculture to show that farming is profitable and sustainable.

It would like to teach farmers that right skills ₊ right knowledge = agri-entrepreneurs. It also would like to develop a vibrant agro-industrial sector in the countryside by integrating rural enterprises development in its educational program.

Molding Future Innovators, MFI Technological Institute (formerly Meralco Foundation Institute) focus is on agriculture because it believes that increase in agricultural output can contribute a great deal to cheaper food that would benefit the urban and rural poor, increase farmers’ income and generate employment opportunities.

It encourages agribusiness because agribusiness is the chain that brings food to the plate and that in the study Project Jobs Fit 2010: The DOLE 2020 Vision of the Department of Labor and Employment, the agribusiness sector is seen as a key job-provider for Filipinos in the next  ten (10) years.

In the press conference conducted at the MFI Bldg. in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City with Col. Alejandro Teves Escano, president of MFI Foundation  Inc. and Jose Rene C. Gayo, Corporate Secretary and Vice President for MFI Farm Business Institute  in Jala-jala, Rizal, on June 12, the two were glad to say that MFI Farm Business Institute teaches and gives emphasis to organic farming and produces their own organic fertilizer and uses the  ANICA Organic Pesticide produced in Cebu City.

Today, MFI continues to serve through the MFI Technological Institute and MFI Farm Business Institute, two institutions that differ in nature, yet are two arms extended by MFI to build a stronger nation. Ester Gallardo, PSciJourn MegaManila
