RETROFITTING NG MGA BUILDINGS, IPINAG UTOS

 

Ipinag-utos ni Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista ang pagsasagawa ng “retrofitting” ng mga buildings sa siyudad upang masiguro na makakayanaan nito ang mga pagyanig  kapag nagkaroon ng lindol.

 

Ang kautusan ni Mayor Bautista ay bunsod na rin sa babala ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) sa posibilidad na magkaroon ng lindol matapos ang mahigit na 200 taong hindi paggalaw ng West Valley Fault System (WVFS).

 

Ayon kay Bautista, dapat magkaroon ng re-assessment sa structural design ng lahat ng mga buildings at iba pang imprastraktura sa siyudad upang agad makagawa ng kinakailangang refurbishing at upgrading.

 

Bilang bahagi na rin ng disaster preparedness program ng pamahalaan, nagsasagawa ang Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC) ng regular planning, evaluation and preparedness seminar/workshop para sa mga miyembro at technical working group members. Sasailalim rin sila sa orientation para sa kinakailangang paghahanda upang matamo ang zero casualty.

 

Inimbitahan kamakailan ng QCDRRMC si Peter Yanev, isang structural engineer at consultant ng World Bank sa disaster risk reduction management, para talakayin ang importansiya ng pagsasagawa ng assessment sa istraktura ng isang estabilismiento.  Sinabi nito na kinakaharap ng bansa ang pangangailangan ng “retrofitting” bilang paghahanda sa posibilidad ng malakas na lindol na maaaring tumama anumang oras sa bansa.

 

Pinaalalahanan din ni Yanev ang mga miyembro ng QCDRRMC tungkol sa importansiya ng pagkakaroon ng detailed risk audit and assessment sa lahat ng imprastraktura para sa pagkakaroon ng preventive measures upang mabawasan ang pagkasira at pagkawala ng buhay.

 

“Fixing the buildings and other structures is the most probable preparation we can make here in Quezon City ,” ani Bautista.

 

Sinabi naman ni QCDRRMC action officer and Department of Public Order and Safety chief Elmo DG. San Diego na nagsasagawa na sila ng pagr- rate at retrofitting ng mga building base sa lokasyon nito para mapaghandaan ang anumang poibleng pagkasira na dulot ng lindol. -30- Divine/ Maureen Quinones, PAISO
