QC TO IMPOSE SPEED LIMITS ON OTHER MAJOR ROADS

Next to Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City’s Mindanao Avenue and Elliptical Road will also be covered soon by speed limits to instill discipline on drivers and motorists plying QC roads.

Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has directed the QC department of public order and safety (DPOS) to study the proposal to impose speed limits in other QC thoroughfares before the city makes a proper recommendation to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

For Mindanao Avenue, the Mayor wants to impose the same 60-kilometer speed limit being enforced at Commonwealth Avenue while a lower speed limit has been proposed for Elliptical Road.

According to the Mayor, the move to impose speed limits on QC’s two other major roads forms part of the city’s effort to ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians from road accidents that usually results from overspeeding and reckless driving.

Mayor Bautista is also keen on implementing the city’s own traffic management plan that will include the continuous conduct of seminars for drivers of public utility vehicles plying major QC routes.

Meanwhile, the Mayor requested liquor licensing and regulatory board chairman Alberto Galarpe to provide him with a copy of the ordinance on the selling and serving of liquors and its   implementing rules and regulations to determine whether driving under the influence of liquor deserves stricter measures considering  the rise of vehicular accidents in the city.

The QC Police District and the department of public order and safety will be providing the Mayor with statistics on the causes of vehicular accidents in the city. -30- Precy/ Ramir/ Ej / Maureen Quinones, PAISO
