Montejo wants DOST to manage public money wisely

Public money “must be managed wisely because we hold it as a matter of public trust”.

This was the gist of Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario G. Montejo’s message to about 200 financial and administrative personnel of DOST who held a two-day consultative assembly starting Feb. 3 in Bicutan science complex.

Montejo also said government work is a dignified vocation that’s in harmony with “hard work and performance excellence”.

About 200 participants from DOST’s 22 attached agencies and 16 regional offices attended the event.

“The main objective of the consultative assembly is to enhance their knowledge and skills in handling financial and administrative issues” that often come out during discussions and interactions, Montejo added.

Overall, the participants are expected to gain updated insights in the preparation of consolidated financial reports, streamlining of financial and administrative rules, timely submission of reports, and in instituting guidelines in preparing the budget for next year.

DOST invited experts from the Department of Budget and Management, Commission on Audit, and Civil Service Commission to provide inputs on current issues, trends, and best practices in government accounting, auditing, and administration along with the related and latest circulars, guidelines, and related issuances.
